In anticipation of summer days spent outdoors, I was so excited to partner with Hayneedle on an outdoor space for lounging and entertaining poolside under a covered patio. This home is located in Las Vegas in a hot desert climate. The outdoor area which overlooks the pool was barren and unused. We remodeled the pool and now it was time to bring comfortable furniture to the adjacent space.
Creating a poolside outdoor oasis is possible with a few important elements, but the first step is to think of your outdoor space as an indoor room. Stylish indoor spaces possess comfortable furniture, area rugs, curtains, and art, so include the same in the design plan. Bring the indoors out by adding outdoor-friendly fabrics and furnishings. Anchor a deep seat sofa or sectional like Coral Coast South Isle Conversation Set with an outdoor area rug to add pattern and comfort underfoot.
Outdoor spaces are often where we spend the most time in sunny weather, so add bright or bold colors as accents to neutral pieces. The palette in this space includes sand tones accented by blues, greens, and other brights – such as those in these toss pillows – playing off the existing colors of the pool tile and tropical botanicals.
Staying hydrated is a priority in hot weather so opposite the sofa I included a beverage station along the wall to keep drinks nearby. I chose a multitasking potting bench with a beautiful stainless steel top; the shelves store extra towels and sparkling water, and the deep drawers store suntan lotion, napkins, and extra utensils. Also pictured are the Tag Bubble Glass Tumblers and the Cambridge Bamboo Flatware. The large scale Three Palms Outdoor Canvasfills the blank space above by repeating the palm trees present in the backyard.
Even when catching rays lounging in the sun, it’s important to provide shade for sun protection so the Coral Coast All Weather Chaise Lounges are protected by the Coral Coast Sunbrella Patio Umbrella in Ginko and made comfortable with the Magnolia Casual Beach Boulevard Striped Pillows. The pair enjoys a view of the pool to keep an eye on kids playing or simply to observe the soothing blues present in the water.
One final element to create an outdoor oasis is to include green foliage in both large and small scale. Take a trip to your local nursery and consider anything that will thrive in your growing zone. In this desert climate, succulents, palm trees, orchids and large leaf tropicals tolerate the heat, I planted two botanicals in the tall sculptural Belham Living Valencia planter.
As an added bonus, the Coral Coast Conversation Set includes a fire pit for enjoying outdoor living by firelight even after the sun goes down.
